Comcast Names 87 Leaders And Achievers Scholarship Recipients In Washington

Lynnwood, Washington – The Comcast Foundation, founded in 1999 to provide charitable support to its local communities and to empower and enrich lives, has Leaders and Achievers logoawarded scholarships to 87 students throughout Washington through the annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program.

“We’re thrilled to award scholarships to the best and brightest High School seniors in the communities we serve,” said Charisse Lille, vice president, community investment of Comcast Corp. and executive president of the Comcast Foundation. “Comcast is proud to play a role in the development of our nation’s future leaders and we hope these scholarships will help power their dreams along the way.”

“These young people worked hard and have a track record of leadership and commitment to help their communities. We’re proud to honor their effort by helping to fulfill their dreams of education,” said Len Rozek, senior vice president of Comcast’s Washington market.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their Schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to be prepared for the future, to engage youth in their communities, and to demonstrate the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community
Since the program’s inception there have been over 13,300 scholarship winners totaling more than $13.4 million. Here are a list of winners for 2010:

Comcast To Open New Seattle Office and Retail Center

Company signs lease to move into new building at the corner of Stone Avenue North and 128th Street by June 1, creating new Comcast Seattle Technology Center

SEATTLE, May 11, 2010 – Comcast, the country’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, today announced that after more than 20 years at its current location off Aurora Avenue North, the company’s Seattle office will be moving to a new 80,512 square foot building at 12645 Stone Avenue North.

The company expects to move into the new location by June 1. Formerly occupied by Hansen Brothers Moving and Storage, the building’ will undergo significant interior renovations before it becomes the base for Comcast’s Seattle operations, housing 185 employees, including installation and repair technicians, sales people and warehouse staff. The company expects to complete all renovations to the new building by August 1.

 In a first for a Comcast Seattle location, the new Comcast Technology Center will include a 3,000 square foot retail store where customers can try out new equipment and services, pay bills, return and pick up equipment and meet face to face with Comcast customer sales and service representatives to get assistance with Comcast products and services.

“Our new Comcast Seattle Technology Center is a dramatic step up from our old building not only in size, but in the quality of service we can provide our customers,” said Anne McMullen, Area Vice President for Comcast. “With its convenient location just off I-5 near Northgate, we expect that it will become a destination point for our customers who want the face to face interaction with customer service representatives that is becoming increasingly rare in today’s world. It also will be a great location for prospective customers to come in and ask questions and compare our services and products.”

Comcast’s current Seattle location at 1140 North 94th Street has been the base for Seattle cable operations since 1989, when it served only a fraction of the customers it does today. The 15,000 square foot building is bursting at the seams with 144 employees, a warehouse and a small front counter area where customers can return equipment and pay bills. Nearly all of the additional employees who will be relocating to the new building will be coming from other Comcast area offices, because space was so limited at the 94th Street building.

In addition to the retail space, the Comcast Seattle Technology Center building includes 10,500 square feet of warehouse space, 30,000 square feet of office space and a 37,012 square foot parking garage.
